Review: Nars Sheer Glow Foundation

I am a self-confessed foundation-aholic and over the years I have tried many, many brands.  Foundation is a very personal thing - there are lots of things to consider: colour range, coverage, staying power, finish, price.  It can take a lot of experimentation to find one that works for you.

Enter Nars Sheer Glow foundation.  This foundation has been blogged about quite a bit and with good reason.  First, some of the practical details:  Nars Cosmetics are available online through www.narscosmetics.co.uk or through Space NK stores.  This foundation costs £29 and it's recommended for normal to dry skin types.

Shades...  Available in neutral, pink and yellow tones there's a lot of flexibility to find not just the right shade, but the right skin tone too.  I find that some brands can lean either too yellow or too pink for me, so it was great to find more flattering, neutral tones (for reference, I'm shade Mont Blanc).  The colour stays true, it dries to the shade it comes out of the bottle and I don't notice any oxidization through the day.  The Nars website is very comprehensive but if you're still unsure about which shade is best for you, I'd recommend getting a colour match in store.

Coverage...  This foundation is extremely pigmented - you can apply a very sheer layer and get great coverage.  There's time to blend but it dries quickly to a satin finish making it easily buildable as you don't need to wait before applying another layer if needed.

Finish...  It gives a lovely skin-like, satin, radiant finish - not glittery, dewy or shiny.  It looks like my skin, but better!   It dries down and doesn't need to be set with powder on drier skins but as I have combination skin I do add some powder to the t-zone.  It lasts extremely well and if I don't touch my face too much in the day, I rarely even need to touch up in the evenings.   Just a word of caution: if you do plan on wearing it to an evening event be aware that it's radiant finish may cause your face to look lighter/brighter in photographs taken with flash.

Cost...  At £29 it's not cheap, but it's good value because a little goes a long way.
Of all the high-street foundations I've tried, I feel this gives me the best combination of coverage, finish and longevity and I'd recommend it!

Pros...
- Great coverage, very pigmented
- Long lasting - doesn't go patchy/blotchy, little retouching required
- Very buildable
- Reduces appearance of fine lines

Cons...
- It's perfect for everyday but if you're likely to be photographed with flash, be prepared your face to look brighter/lighter
